In case of perfect bound hardcover books, it is best to choose from the following options for the best result of the print and binding. The cover is always printed on a 150g/m² matt-coated paper type. This cover is then placed on a 700g/m² cardboard board.

Cutting

If the document design is created from edge to edge and there is no bleed, it will automatically be added. In this way no white edges will appear.

Safety distance

Keep a safe distance between text and cut or folded edges so that they are not cut off. A safe edge is at least 5 mm.

Cover as separate pages

If the pages for the cover are submitted separately (p1, p2, p3, p4, p5) the spine is added by us. The pages are processed as follows:
P4 - P1
P2 - P3
P5 is processed in the spine

Bleed

It is important that extra bleed of the cover is included in the design. A safe margin for bleed is at least 3 mm.

P5 is processed in the spine. Pages 2 and 3 of the cover cannot be printed. A hardcover is processed single-sided. The inside of the cover has an endpaper.

Flex area

The pinch (flex area) is provided with a sturdy crease and has a hinge function. The cover can be opened and slammed by the pinch. The width of the pinch is 7 mm. Use the spine calculator for a clear overview

Bleed and extra margin

It is important that extra bleed of the cover is included in the design. This is at least 15 mm. extra on all sides. Keep this in mind in the layout.
